What’s in a blog?

So. What’s in a blog? Everybody’s blog is different.

• My friends Sue and Michael are keeping a blog that follows the life of the new person their raising, Verl Grey.
• My friend David is a pontificator and a story-teller, and he keeps a blog philosophizing and story-telling in real article style.
• My friend and old roommate Amanda is keeping a blog of her kayak trip up the inside passage.
• My old colleague from grad school and his girlfriend are biking to the southern tip of South America, and keeping a blog about that?
• My coworker Sandy has a blog about biology and bioinformatics.

What is my blog? I guess my failure to answer that question is what has kept me from starting my blog. I’m not a big writer, not taking a huge trip across land or water, and most of my big thinking happens either about personal stuff that you don’t want to publish on the web, or proprietary work stuff that you also don’t want to publish on the web.

So I guess that I give up on defining my blog. Maybe it’ll be like “tell a story when I have a good one” or maybe it’ll be like “what’s up with Xie these days”, or maybe it’ll be “this thing I thought about the other day”. Who knows? I guess if I started writing some stuff, I would just find out.
